Earth Day is an annual event held in April organised and coordinated globally by the not-for-profit organisation earthday.org.uk. Its purpose is to galvanise and demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now reaches 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. 
 
This year the theme is Our Power, Our Planet — Let’s Unite in a Commitment to Renewable Energy to Generate Clean Electricity for All.  
We would encourage everyone in the Parish to do what they can to support this ambition. Get involved  
 
As a council we try to do what we can in our parish to move towards more sustainable energy sources. All our lampposts are being changed to LED lighting when the bulbs need preplacing, and we were delighted to see that the bungalows in Sutton and Lyme Green have had solar panels installed. 
 
We have recently changed our energy supplier to SSE Energy Solutions, which is investing in renewable energy production. Changing to a green energy supplier is one step along the path of reducing harmful carbon emissions.
