In February 2020 Sutton Parish Council made the following resolution:

“Sutton Council acknowledges the climate emergency declared by central and local government (Cheshire East Council) and resolve to take whatever measures that are within its power to support the goal of being carbon neutral by 2030”

Since that resolution of course, we have had two awful years of Covid, which has hindered development. We are pleased to be back focusing and doing our bit towards building a parish that is more environmentally friendly.

We have set up a voluntary climate group which consists of Councillors and other members from within the community and are currently planning what we can do now, in the months to come and years ahead.

We are taking our guidance from the Cheshire East Town and Parish Council Toolkit. The toolkit has seven key areas for making a difference and not surprisingly Waste is one of them.

Our first step is to support The Keep Britain Tidy organisation which is sponsoring a Great British Spring Clean, from 25th March – 10th April. We would like to invite all members and groups within the community to consider setting up a litter picking activity within these dates. If you let us know what it is you are planning, we will look to support, promote and co-ordinate the activities across the parish and also supply the results back to the Great British Spring Clean so we can promote the parish’s efforts.

Prior to Covid, the three villages had regular litter picks and as we are approaching the Queen’s Jubilee year it will be a great way to make the parish look its best.

As we are focusing initially on waste and it’s management, if you have any ideas or thoughts on waste within the community or about sustainability within our community please contact the council via the website or email our clerk.
